Printing with the Sun: Cyanotype Workshop and Book Launch

Join community gardener and artist Madge Evers for a beginner-friendly art workshop and book launch of Madge’s book, “Printing with the Sun.”

At 4:00 pm, Madge will host a fun, creative, and beginner-friendly workshop on Botanical Cyanotypes, a magical, simple, camera-less technique that results in graphic blue and white prints. Participants will be introduced to the process developed in 1842 and will use plants to create a photographic image, called a photogram. Each student will have the opportunity to make up to two or three prints to take home. All materials, including pressed plant material, will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own pressed plants to use in their compositions.

At 6:00 pm, we will honor Madge’s book, all about cyanotypes and featuring Madge’s work alongside other local artists’ work! All are welcome (no registration needed) for the 6 pm book launch celebration.

I will talk about the book, share my own history with the cyanotype process, and introduce its 19th-century origins. I will then conduct a live demonstration of how the process works. Finally, I will provide an opportunity for attendees to enjoy a simple hands-on activity, creating a cyanotype bookmark to take home.
