Carry a Torch depicts fennel/Foeniculum vulgare, an herb historically believed to impart strength, courage, and clarity. Prometheus carried the sun’s fire to earth on a giant a stalk of fennel. Made with the bioluminescent spores of Jack O’ Lantern mushrooms plus other mushroom species. Part of the New Herbarium series, my interpretation of the practice of preserving and presenting plants. Inspiration for this series came from Emily Dickinson’s Herbarium.
About this limited edition print: I’ve adapted the mushroom spore print process to create works on paper with actual mushroom spores. I photograph each spore print and create inkjet prints in limited editions. Original mushroom spore prints here. The 20 x 28 inch spore print original of Carry a Torch is in a private collection.
