Bluets in June depicts Houstonia & Vitis riparia with the spores of Dryad’s Saddle/Polyporous Squamosus. Bluets flower briefly in mid-spring, carpeting the new grass with tiny purple four-petaled flowers. Some stretch as tall as 6 inches, but most stay close to the ground. I love their hopeful arrival; even if only for a few weeks, they always show up. The departure of Bluets means summer is here. Part of the New Herbarium series, my interpretation of the practice of preserving and presenting plants. Inspiration for this series came from Emily Dickinson’s Herbarium.
About this limited edition print: I’ve adapted the mushroom spore print process to create works on paper with actual mushroom spores. I photograph each spore print and create inkjet prints in limited editions. Original mushroom spore prints available here. The 20 x 28 inch spore print original of Bluets in June is in a private collection.
